Fresh Turmeric is a vibrant, aromatic root widely hailed for its use both in the culinary and medicinal world. It exhibits a robust, deep orange hue and a tough, brown skin reminiscent of ginger, to which it is related. The firm flesh within releases a warm, peppery aroma with earthy, slightly bitter undertones when sliced. This pungent rhizome is often grated or ground into a fine, golden powder that's integral to many spice blends and curry powders. Renowned for adding an intense color and distinctive flavor, Turmeric pairs exquisitely with coconut milk dishes, lentils, rice, and vegetables. It's also a favorite ingredient in health-boosting smoothies, teas, and tonics, celebrated for its curcumin content, which contributes to its anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant activity.
Hickory Hill Farm is all about family. Back in 1852, this 200+ acre plot was gifted to the family as part of a land grant for a relative's service in the Revolutionary War. Now the Certified Organic farm is run by Garry and Susan Shaw along with their daughter, Jennifer Johns, and her husband Josh. Altogether, four generations of the Shaw family are currently living on or working this plot of land. Not to mention their many chickens, hogs, sheep, cattle, and horses!
