Shiso Leaves, a distinctive element in Asian cuisine, are known for their unique shape, vibrant purple or green hue, and a flavor profile that combines hints of mint, basil, anise, and cinnamon. The leaves are broad yet tender, with a captivating texture that adds visual interest to any dish. Shiso, often featured in Japanese cooking, is used to wrap sushi rolls, season meats, or enhance the freshness of salads. Its aroma can elevate simple rice dishes or noodle soups, and it makes a striking garnish due to its bold color. In addition to its culinary uses, Shiso leaves are rich in calcium and iron, beneficial to a well-rounded diet.
Just a few minutes down the road from the Fresh Harvest office and warehouse, there's a small piece of property on a pond in the woods. Farmer Cody Burnett faithfully manages the cultivation of this land with his team of farmhands from the Clarkston community. Together they plant and harvest an inordinate amount of organically grown produce, both for Fresh Harvest customers and for the Share the Harvest Market in Clarkston. Growing culturally relevant food for refugees from around the world means that the Fresh Harvest Garden looks a bit different than most Georgia farms, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
