Moonglow pears are a mid-season variety known for their smooth, russeted skin with a light green to red hue. They have a soft, buttery texture and a mild, sweet flavor with minimal tartness, making them excellent for fresh eating or cooking. Moonglow pears are highly resistant to diseases, which makes them a popular choice for home gardeners and orchardists. Their creamy flesh is juicy and fragrant, and they are often used in sauces, preserves, or baked goods. This pear variety ripens in late summer to early fall, offering a longer storage life compared to some other pear varieties.
Bill Suhr started his orchard on 60 acres back in 1998. Today Champlain grows more than a hundred varieties of apples and stone fruit on over 200 acres.
