Ran Lew Dairy
Randy Lewis, owner of Ran-Lew Dairy, is a fifth-generation farmer. Randy’s love of cows started when he was eight, chasing his grandmother around as she managed the dairy. Grandmother Margaret sold her dairy cows on December 26th, 1972 (a sad day in their world). Not being satisfied without milking cows, Randy went to work for other neighboring dairies. He bought the farm from his grandmother in 1980 and started his own dairy business in 1981; Ran Lew Dairy was born!
Ran-Lew Dairy is a recognized Century Farm by the state of North Carolina and is now a Grade A dairy, certified by the North Carolina Food, Drug, and Consumer Services division. The dairy began bottling milk in 2013 and the milk plant (located on the farm) utilizes vat pasteurization to produce Grade A (fluid milk) products.
The farm consists of 110 acres which are used for the cows to graze and to grow their feed of silage and hay.
Ran-Lew Dairy loves and cares for 50 milking cows of various breeds -- registered Holsteins, Jerseys, Guernseys, and one Milking Shorthorn. Our cows spend their days grazing in pastures around the farm. They are not given artificial hormones and they are only treated with antibiotics when they are sick, which is rare (and in those cases their milk is not processed).
