Not sure what to add to your Fresh Harvest order? Need some inspiration for what to do with your box contents? I’m here to share my weekly Fresh Harvest order contents, behind the scenes details, and what I’m making. Plus, find out what I’m excited about for the upcoming week. Let’s get into it.
What’s In My Fresh Harvest Delivery This Week?
What Am I Doing With My Order?
Peaches, Blueberries, Blackberries, Strawberries, Apricots, & Cherries
- The theme of this week’s delivery is…convenience! I’m in a particularly busy season of life with an active 11-month-old, so Georgia’s fruit season couldn’t have come at a better time. Our baby can’t get enough berries, and after trying her first bite of a peach last week, it’s all she seems to want now. So this week, I won’t be creating any special concoctions with all that fruit. It will be decimated raw without any pretense of preparation. That said, if we ever get overzealous and order too much fruit to eat in a week, we just chop and freeze it all to add to smoothies in an upcoming week.
- I did invest in an inexpensive cherry pitter that saves a lot of time and mess. You can pick one up here. Good news: it doubles as an olive pitter!
Limes
- I somehow ordered 11 limes this week. But they last awhile in the refrigerator crisper drawer and it’s getting to be Ranch Water season. Grab your Topo Chico. Or better yet, some local Montane Sparkling Water!
Brined & Smoked Chicken Thighs
- These pre-brined, pre-cooked bone-in thighs are delicious and juicy. They also save a ton of time, and are a hit with our baby. Just heat them up in the oven and you’re good to go. We’ll either just pull them apart for the baby or pack them up for easy lunches with a side of mashed sweet potatoes.
Chicken Breasts
- We always have a pack or two of these breasts in the freezer. They’re from Hunter Cattle Co near Savannah, and they’re better than anything we can find at the grocery stores nearby. I appreciate Hunter Cattle’s animal welfare practices and we always enjoy the flavor and being able to support a local farm.
- I loved how easy it was to throw together this Chicken Burrito Skillet. You can spice it up however you like, and put more of that local produce to use for a tasty weeknight meal with even better leftovers. Personally I’d recommend adding a little more salt.
Ground Turkey
- You may notice a poultry theme here. I’m a fan of beef and pork too, but those are usually exceptions for our kitchen when it comes to meat. The ground turkey from Pine Street Market is just so versatile. It’s one we keep stocked most weeks.
- This week I’ll be using mine to make this Turkey Meatloaf…again. It was juicy and flavorful. 10 out of 10.
Summer Spice Rubbed Spatchcock Chicken
- Yet another chicken. This is a first-time order for me. I’m drawn to it because of how easy it seems to be. The process of spatchcocking a chicken significantly cuts down the cook time, and it’s already seasoned. I reached out to Rusty Bowers at Pine Street Market for some quick tips. His recommendation for oven-cooking is to sprinkle some salt on the thawed chicken then put it in the over at 350 for 40 minutes. Check to make sure internal temp is 165 or above, then use the drippings to toss with roasted potatoes or root veggies.
- This is the type of meal that can last our family of 3 a solid three meals. I’m hopeful that this one will become another staple for us.
- Here are instructions from Pine Street Market for how to make yours on a Big Green Egg.
North Carolina Rainbow Trout
- I’ll be smoking this subtle and mild fish over applewood this weekend on my Big Green Egg using this recipe.
- Kathleen’s Catch in John’s Creek has been a long-time partner of Fresh Harvest, and the trout is one of my all time favorites from them. Not to mention, US farmed Rainbow Trout is rated a Best Choice by the Monterrey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch. Get those Omega 3’s, people!
Peppered Roasted Salmon
- I have this delicious salmon from Blue Circle Foods as a weekly recurring item in my Fresh Harvest box. It’s the perfect combination of easy, healthy, and tasty.
- Today I threw it on top of some extra greens, added Arden’s Garden Dill Ranch Dressing, and called it lunch.
Sequatchie Cove Pasture Raised Eggs
- We do Breakfast for Dinner at least a couple nights a week. And that’s not even counting the actual breakfast time meals. So it’s a no-brainer for us to keep our local eggs recurring each week.
- Boiling eggs is another great way to have healthy, protein-rich snacks on hand. Having an electric egg boiling tool like this one has made it so much quicker and easier.
Organic Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk
- Being lactose intolerant, it’s really tough to find almond milk without a bunch of junk in it. The Mooala Vanilla Almond Milk tastes great and only has 4 ingredients: filtered water, organic almonds, organic vanilla bean extract with organic vanilla beans, and Himalayan pink sea salt.
- My typical morning smoothie includes almond milk, a frozen banana, a cup of frozen greens (if you can’t get through all your greens, freezing is a great way to save them!), and a scoop of protein powder. All those extra fruits make great additions too. This is every day for us, pretty much without exception.
Zinnia Flower Bunch
- These beautiful flowers are coming from Diamond Hill Farm in Athens. I know it’s a little less practical to order flowers every week, but it really has the power to brighten up our days. Not sure what’s going on there biologically and psychologically, but I’m here for it. Plus, it’s fun supporting local flower growers who we know to be passionate and thougthful about their practices, rather than sourcing from an unknown international entity.
What Am I Looking Forward to for Next Week?
- Strawflowers! These are my all-time favorite summer flower and they’re coming from Diamond Hill Farm as well.
- Red grapes. I wash and dry these as soon as they get to my house and then pop them right into the freezer. This has become a favorite healthy “sweet” for me that induces exactly zero guilt.
- Spring Lady Peaches from Masumoto Family Farm. These larger peaches are aromatic with a light sweetness. Man, I love peaches.
- Beautiful Briny Sea’s Butcher Salt in collaboration with Pine Street Market. A great gift for dads who like to grill, or just a tasty cooking companion to have on hand.
- Badger Flame Beets. These unique beets are bred for sweetness and can be eaten raw. How cool is that!? Here’s a short video from the grower, Matt Fry of Fry Farm, talking about what makes them so special.
